Victory

So last night me and Philip Charos played our gig at a joint down town. We were doing alright. But who was in the crowd? None other than Mr. John Lamb. For those of you who aren’t familiar, he was the bassist for Duke Ellington. We finished our second set and he called us over to sit down with him. He talks about life a little bit and asks us why we play jazz. Then he finishes his wine and actually asks to play with us. Our jaws were dropped. We finally decided on Autumn Leaves. I chord comped the head and took turns with Phillipos on the melody, playing it over and over again until John started staring at us. We were too afraid to take a solo. It was awesome. I can’t believe that I can actually say that I played “So What” with John Lamb. What an incredible night, and so early in my career too. Oh, and we got paid immensely. So much yes last night.
